white pole road logoWe heard from White Pole Road Development Corporation board member Liz Gilman yesterday as she spoke with us about her organization’s plan to have a stand set up near Stuart City Hall on Saturday night during Scoop the Loop.

Their stand will be a celebration of the 100-year anniversary of White Pole Road being the first registered road route in Iowa.

Aside from their anniversary cake giveaway scheduled for Saturday, Gilman also talked to Raccoon Valley Radio about what else the Development Corporation has been working on of late.

“Right now we’re just working on signage.  We wanted to make sure our welcome signs are in place, and we’re working on what’s called vanity signs, adding the White Pole Road name to street signs that go through the Cities (of Adair, Casey, Menlo, Stuart and Dexter) because sometimes if you approach from either the north or the south, you don’t see the poles right away and you need to know where you are.  So, we had a request to start working on those vanity street signs.”

Gilman says her group is also working on a few other “housekeeping” type matters this summer, such as painting a few of the 700 white telephone poles along the White Pole Road.

As we reported yesterday, Gilman invites all area residents to stop by their booth at Scoop the Loop Saturday night to learn about some of the history behind White Pole Road.  The group’s stand will be out from 6 to 8pm on Saturday.
