Greene County’s static exhibit qualifiers for Iowa State Fair

There’s something for everyone this weekend at the Greene County Fair.

Saturday begins with one of the more popular livestock shows with the beef exhibits at 8am at the showring followed by a baby contest at Clover Hall at 9:30am.

Kid’s pedal tractor pull starts at noon and a newer activity for 4-H’ers is the “Share the Fun” talent contest at Clover Hall at 1pm.  A 4-H fun horse show is at 2pm at the showring and there is a pork and lamb barbecue meal at 5:30pm at the bus barn which is sponsored by the Greene County Pork and Lamb producers.

To round out the activities on Saturday is the grandstand entertainment with the tractor pull.

Sunday brings another busy day at the fair with a cribbage tournament at Clover Hall at noon along with Clover Hall, the commercial exhibits and open class art hall will be open from noon to 4pm.

Following the livestock judging at noon will be a round robin showmanship contest at 1:30pm at the showring.  There will be two strength-type contests will be in the afternoon with a tug-of-war competition at 2:30pm at the showring followed by a monster arm wrestling contest at 3pm at the bus barn.2014 GC Fair Static Exhibit

In the evening will be the grandstand entertainment at 7pm with the Grand River Rodeo followed by a youth dance taking place from 8-10:30pm.

Finally on Monday, the fair wraps up with the annual Junior Fair Premium Auction where sponsors bid on each 4-H’ers projects to raise money for the community.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Sarah Jo Reynolds says having this kind of event to end the fair is great for community involvement.

“Keep the 4-H’ers coming back each year, keep our numbers growing.  It’s also fun to spotlight the local donors as well and the people that help our community not only with 4-H but with any other program, we’ve got a lot of great people out there helping to support this community and keep everything going.”
