A deputy and the sheriff, along with personnel from the Greene County Emergency Medical Services, the Scranton Fire Department and a Greene County Secondary Road  employee all responded to an accident involving a bicycle being struck by a car. A 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix being driven by Alicia Leanne Paup 25, of Jefferson was westbound on 230th Street and had just passed the F Avenue intersection when she struck a westbound bicycle being ridden by Scott Andrew Carroll 51, of Jefferson. Carroll was able to call e-911 on his cellphone and was soon assisted by a secondary road employee that was first on scene. Scott Carroll was transported to the Greene County Medical Center where he was soon flown by Life Flight to Des Moines. Carroll was reported to be in stable condition as of late in the afternoon. Alicia Paup was not injured but will be issued citations for Steering to Close to a Bicyclist and Failure to Maintain Control of her vehicle. The accident is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

A deputy was asked to perform a welfare check on an elderly resident in the 400 block of 9th Street in Grand Junction. The female was found to be safe.

A deputy found a resident in the 800 block of East Main Street in Grand Junction to be safe after receiving a report that a relative had been unable to contact him.

Dispatchers from the Union Pacific Railroad advised dispatchers at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, that train engineers reported cattle along the railroad tracks at 222nd Street and Parkland Avenue. The owner of the cattle was advised and put the cattle back into the pasture.

A deputy responded to a reported car-deer accident just east of the Raccoon River Bridge on 305th Street. The deer was injured and was put down by the deputy. There was only minor damage to the car being driven by Ronda Rae Diaz 51,of Rippey. Diaz did not need an accident report and did not sustain any personal injuries.

A deputy and the Chief Deputy Sheriff, along with a unit from the Jefferson Fire Department all responded to a reported accident east of Jefferson on Highway 30. A semi-tractor trailer that was being driven by Thomas Dean Luttrell 58, of Boise, Idaho, failed to slow for the bridge repair east of Jefferson and struck a Ford F-150 pickup being driven by Rhonda Elaine Hartstack 63, of Stanton, Iowa, and a passenger, Gary Lee Hartstack. No injuries were reported and both vehicles were towed from the scene. It was reported that both vehicle were determined to be a total loss. The accident is still under investigation with charges pending.

A deputy was advised by a resident in the 600 block of East Main Street in Grand  Junction that she had received a phone call which she believed was a phone scam. The caller stated that she had won $4800 and was to send a small amount of money in order to claim the prize. She did not comply and wanted the sheriff’s office to be aware of the situation.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Perkins Street in Churdan after dispatchers at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office received an e-911 call from the residence. The deputy determined that all occupants were safe.

A deputy was advised by a rural resident in the 1800 block of 283rd Street that off road golf carts and 4-wheel ATV’s are being ridden on the gravel roadway. The deputy advised the caller that more patrol will be given to that particular area.

A deputy spoke with a Scranton resident about a civil issue and how to proceed with  litigation in small claims court.

A deputy was placed on standby for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office after an altercation involving a reported weapon was brandished at a residence in Lanesboro, Iowa, after a domestic altercation.

In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all  defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
