Greene County SheriffThe Greene County Sheriff’s office participated in the last Special Traffic Enforcement Program by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

Deputy Dave Kersey says from July 1st through the 7th, the sheriff’s office issued 24 citations and 28 warnings.  There were 18 citations and 18 warnings given for speeding.  They also issued citations and warnings for stop sign and registration violations, no insurance, driving with a suspended license, violation for child restraint and other traffic violations.

Officials also made six motor vehicle arrests, one operating while intoxicated arrest, one narcotics arrest and one arrest for an accident with property damage.

Kersey states that during their seat belt usage survey, there were only 81% of the motorists were wearing their seatbelts during the pre-sTEP Wave and 88% were using them during the post-survey time frame.

The next sTEP program will be from August 25th through September 7th.
