Hundreds of students in the Perry School District have been able to enjoy nutritious meals this summer, free of charge.

Perry is one of 385 Iowa sites participating in the United States Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program this year.

According to Nutrition Director Gail McFarlin, around 125 students enjoy breakfast at the Perry elementary daily during the summer.

Lunch numbers are even higher with around 300 kids being served when summer school is in session and approximately 200 eating per day when classes are not in session.

Superintendent Lynn Ubben says this program is available to all kids in the district and it’s nice to see some local daycare providers taking advantage of the service.

This is the fourteenth year summer meals have been provided for the Perry community.
