Grand JunctionThere’s a new spin on a traditional event for this year’s Grand Junction Lincoln Highway Days celebration later this month.

The annual 5K fun run/walk will now be at night instead of in the morning as a glow-in-the-dark event.

Jan Scharingson says Heidi Fouch Bell is the organizer of the event and wanted to try something new with a long-time traditional race.

Scharingson points out that the race will start at 8pm on Saturday, July 26th by the fire station in Grand Junction on Main Street and will go to the Lincoln Highway Interpretive Site and back to Main Street.  She notes that the fire department will block off streets that cross Main Street to prevent any participants from encountering traffic and Highway 30’s exit into the Interpretive Site will also be closed for safety precautions.

Those who register early receive a t-shirt, a glow stick and a glow necklace and participants are encouraged to wear other glow-in-the-dark items for the fun event.

You will also get a bottle of water and a one drink discount at Ferg’s restaurant following the race.

There are over 120 people signed up for the race and you can still sign up by going to their website.

Registration fee is $25 for adults and $15 for individuals ages 12 and under.

All proceeds will go toward building a new community center.
