Greene County ExtensionIt was another record-breaking year at the premium auction to close out the 2014 Greene County Fair.

ISU Greene County Extension Coordinator Michael Cooley says this year, the auction raised $24,540 for 157 youth that participated in 4-H and FFA this year.  Last year, the event brought in close to $23,000 for 127 youth.

He points out that this is the second year where they’ve opened up the premium auction to include all 4-H and FFA exhibitors at the fair, not just those who showed livestock.

Cooley talks about the great support they receive every year from the community.

“It’s a great way for community groups and organizations and businesses to be able to show their support of the 4-H program and be able to congratulate the kids on a job well done and showcasing the accomplishments.”

He adds that there were lots of 4-H’ers that learned and enhanced their experiences through their different projects and hopes that next year’s total will grow even more.

Next year’s Greene County Fair is scheduled for the week following the 4th of July weekend in 2015.
