GC School BoardThe Greene County School Board met last night in regular session.

The Board approved several agenda items including hiring physical education teacher Richard Beeler as weight room supervisor for the full year for $6,500, the literacy and use of motor vehicle board policy reviews, closing down the Grand Junction weight room and dispersing the equipment to the district and to the community, continuing the activity shuttle program to Grand Junction and Rippey and re-instituting Scranton in the evenings and changing the name of the South Grade Building to Greene County Schools Administration Building.

The Board also approved the 2014-15 nutrition bids for both the bakery and dairy items, the 2014-15 student, staff and coaches handbooks and the 2014-15 depositories in each of the three banks at Home State Bank, People’s Trust and Savings Bank and Wells Fargo Bank.

The Board also approved five legislative action priorities for the Iowa School Boards Association, an agreement with Greene County Medical Center to continue to provide medical terminology and certified nurses assistant programs, utilizing and paying the Greene County Community Center $800 to use the gym during basketball season for nine nights, continuing the 28E Agreement with New Opportunities Head Start to provide services for three and four year-olds and set a public hearing at the August meeting about continuing the instructional support levy and extending it to the year 2020.

The Board gave Superintendent Tim Christensen permission to inquire different construction companies to complete the student construction house so the district can put it on the market and sale it.  Going forward, the Board wants a proposal for smaller projects to do throughout the upcoming school year instead of building another house.

The Board discussed a policy revision about activity eligibility.  Currently, the district allows a student three offenses before that student can lose their activity eligibility for the rest of their middle school and high school career.  After the discussion, it was decided to form a committee made up of Teresa Hagen, Mark Peters and David Ohrt to further review the policy and make a recommendation to the full board at a future meeting.
