The roof of the Perry High School Gym has had leakage issues since it was built a dozen years ago.  Each summer condensation causes problems and results in standing water on the gymnasium floor.  After trying several repair options, the school board has decided the only option left is to replace the roof.

Kevin Long with the Shive-Hattery architecture and engineering firm presented suggestions and options to the board at their meeting Monday and Superintendent Lynn Ubben says they’re ready to move forward.

“The board did say ‘you know, we need (Long) to go ahead and pursue the design’.  Obviously, there’s more steps.  After you get going, we can look to see if we like the design, you can take it out to bid and the board can always say yes or no to the design, or yes or no to the bids so it could be a process but the good thing is we’re moving forward and we do need to get that off our plate” says Ubben.

Best case scenario, Ubben says is they go out to bid for the project this winter and get the roof replaced next summer.
