A one-vehicle accident sends one person to a hospital with minor injuries in Greene County this morning.

Sheriff Steve Haupert says at 1:38am, 25 year-old Jonathon Reimers Stout of Des Moines was traveling east on US Highway 30 near the Raccoon River bridge west of Jefferson, when a deer crossed the roadway forcing Stout to swerve and miss the deer.  His 2008 Chevrolet Impala ended up in the north ditch.  He was taking a passenger, 20 year-old Diamondique Renae Nickens of Des Moines home to Des Moines from her workplace in Carroll.

Haupert states that Stout suffered no injuries, but Nickens was taken to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services with lower back pain.  Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Haupert notes that the vehicle sustained $7,000 in damages and Stout was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.
