Greene County and Panorama (Panora) meet in the Annual Sports Drink football scrimmage tonight at Linduska Field in Jefferson at 7 p.m. Admission is a sports drink and fans may designate which team their sports drink goes to. The respective varsity teams will begin the scrimmage, followed by junior varsity and freshmen players.

This is the second year the Iowa High School Athletic Association is allowing scrimmages from two different schools. Dean Lansman is head coach of the Rams and he likes the idea of scrimmaging another team. “I think it is a good thing for schools. For us, I think it’s good because you can get your kids out there in the groups that you want to see together against someone completely different than yourselves. It really gives you a chance to look at a lot of things, and the personnel that you’re going to put out there on a Friday night. It’s a chance to look at your younger kids, too, so we really like it as a staff.”

Greene County opens the 2014 regular season next Friday, Aug. 29 in Jefferson at Linduska Field at 7 p.m. vs. non-district opponent South Central Calhoun (Lake City).
