The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released 2014 preseason volleyball rankings on Monday. The Guthrie Center Tigers are ranked number 7 in Class 1A to start the season. Woodward-Granger is ranked 14th in 2A. Both the Tigers and Hawks are members of the West Central Activities Conference.

Boone from the Raccoon River Activities Conference is ranked 12th in 4A, while Nevada of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference checks in at number six in 3A.

The number one ranked teams in the state are Holy Trinity Catholic in 1A, Dike-New Hartford in 2A, Solon in 3A, Harlan in 4A, and Ankeny Centennial in Class 5A.

Some volleyball teams in Iowa began the 2014 season last night with more opening tonight. Greene County may be one of the last volleyball programs in Iowa to play a game that counts as Donna Carhill’s Rams don’t play until Tuesday, September 9.
