proposed law enforcement centerIn just over two months, Dallas County voters will have to decide whether or not they want to approve two separate bond referendums to build new a new County administrative building and law enforcement center.

Board of Supervisors Chairman Kim Chapman says he hopes this vote will be more successful than last year’s referendum.

“After the election, we analyzed the reason we thought the issue was defeated and it became apparent that the City of Adel and the businesses in Adel really wanted to keep the County offices in the old, downtown, historic area.  We were also requested to work with the City going forward with a project that would be mutually beneficial to all tax payers” says Chapman.

The two referendums total more than $28 million.  Chapman says they’re still in negotiations for purchase of the property.  Best case scenario, architect Jerry Purdy says if the referendums pass, construction could begin in the spring with the administrative building being completed within a year and the law enforcement center hopefully being done by fall of 2016.

We’ll have more with Supervisor Chapman on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on AM 1310 KDLS.
