ADM junior quarterback Frank Weiland admitted to having some butterflies during the first offensive series or two last Friday against Perry, but that didn’t seem to affect him until later in the game.

Weiland made his first varsity start in Friday’s 15-9 win over the Perry Bluejays, and showed anything but nerves at the game’s onset. The QB started the game a perfect 6-for-6 and looked sharp doing so. Then came a lull in which Weiland went 0-for-6 and threw his first career interception, and the Tigers went into the locker room down 3-0.

Thankfully for ADM, Weiland regained his early-game form to lead the Tigers to victory. He tossed a 16-yard touchdown to Jake Sloss in the third quarter and later ran in from a yard out on a QB sneak that clinched the win.

Weiland said that for whatever reason, he “lost technique” on his throws during the slump, but at halftime and during a 30-minute lightning delay midway through the third quarter, he was able to regain his composure. Weiland finished with 97 yards on 9-of-23 passing, one touchdown and an interception, and rushed for 77 yards on 23 yards and another score.

The Tigers (1-0) travel to Ballard (1-0) this Friday, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
