In sports, the team making the fewest mistakes usually has the better outcome. That’s been true for the Greene County football team. Coach Dean Lansman’s Rams are 1-3 on the season as they prepare for a Class 3A District 2 contest in Webster City on Friday night.

In the three losses, the Rams have been flagged nearly 30 times and have turned the ball over four times. In the lone victory, Greene County had no turnovers and just four penalties.

Coach Lansman told Raccoon Valley Radio that the players were disappointed in how they performed in a 23-7 loss on Sept. 19 in Jefferson to Creston/Orient-Macksburg. “We know we can play better and we’re going to have to do just that if we’re going to finish high in our district,” the coach said.

The Rams scored on their first possession of the game vs. C/O-M in just three minutes, 53 seconds, but did not score again. There were additional scoring opportunities, especially in the first half, but a holding call, the only penalty on the Rams in the first half, wiped out a touchdown run, and two attempts to gain one yard and a first down at the Panthers’ 21 came up empty. Two turnovers on the night also hurt the cause. In all, the Rams were penalized seven times against the Panthers, and the majority were holding or illegal block in the back penalties.

Coverage of Greene County at Webster City on KG98 begins Friday at 6:45 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Both the Rams and Lynx have one victory and both have defeated Algona.
