Greene County went 2-3 in games and 4-6 in sets on Saturday in Huxley at the Ballard Volleyball Invitational. Coach Donna Carhill’s team opened pool play with a 12-21, 16-21 loss to Class 3A number 12 North Polk (Alleman), then won 21-18, 21-17 over Pella, before losing to Class 5A number three Johnston 11-21, 9-21. The Rams were third in their pool and played twice more on the consolation side of the bracket, defeating Knoxville 25-17, 25-11, before losing a second match up with Pella, 15-25, 19-25.

Coach Carhill said of the Rams’ play, “We started the day rather sluggish, but played soundly in the second match of the day. Johnston was a learning experience, but the team hung in there, and, I believe, made some gains in passing and defense. We played solid ball against Knoxville, but just couldn’t put passing, defense, and offense together against Pella for the second time.”

The Rams return to Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play on Sept. 23 in Monroe vs. PCM.
