The Greene County cross-country teams are in action today in Story City at the Riverbend Golf Course for the Roland-Story Invitational. It’s a coed meet with middle school and high school races for both girls and boys, and action begins at 4:30 p.m. In addition to the host Norsemen and the Rams, other teams scheduled to compete are: South Hamilton (Jewell), Bondurant-Farrar, Ogden, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, Madrid/Woodward-Granger, Saydel (Des Moines), Dallas Center-Grimes, Nevada, Woodward Academy, and Southeast Valley (Gowrie). The Greene County girls are ranked sixth in Class 2A by the Iowa Track Coaches Association.

Former Greene County standout runner Allison Higgins, now a freshman at Morningside College in Sioux City, finished in seventh place in Des Moines at the Grand View University cross-country meet on Sept. 19. Higgins led her team to a third place finish among seven squads with a five kilometer (3.1 miles) time of 21 minutes, one second. Morningside goes to one of the country’s biggest meets on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they travel to the U. of Minnesota to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational held at Falcon Heights, MN.
