The Greene County football team had played four games and turned the ball over just four times, which is good. On the other hand, the defense had taken the ball away just four times in the first four games. That changed on Friday night in Webster City during Greene County’s 17-14 victory to spoil Homecoming for the Lynx. WC turned the ball over five times, four in the first half, while the Rams had only one turnover, to give Greene County a plus four in turnover margin for the season.

Jake Carey intercepted two passes and Jordan Challen had one, while Keyden Pollock and Logan Lansman each recovered Lynx fumbles. The Rams now have five interceptions and four fumble recoveries in their first five games. Carey’s first pick was returned 29 yards to the Lynx 11, and Carey caught a TD pass from Daric Whipple on the first play following the interception. Carey’s second pick stopped a WC scoring threat at the Greene County 10 with only eight seconds left before halftime. Challen’s interception was a diving grab with 2:01 to go in the game at the 50 yard line.

Head Coach Dean Lansman watched his team go to 2-0 in Class 3A District 2 with the first road win of the season. Overall, Greene County is 2-3. WC fell to 1-2 in the district and 1-4 overall.

The Rams hope to stay on the positive side of the scoreboard and in turnover margin when eighth rated Humboldt (4-1, 2-1) visits Linduska Field on Friday night in the annual Homecoming game. Coverage starts at 6:45 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
