ADM volleyball enjoyed a successful weekend after making it to the championship bracket of the highly-competitive Dubuque Invitational on Saturday, so a letdown in return to conference play against a sub-.500 opponent was possible.

The Tigers avoided such a let down at home last night, edging the visiting Winterset Huskies in four sets. All four sets were decided by six points or fewer, easily making last night’s victory ADM’s hardest-earned of the season. The Tigers took the first set 25-19 and dropped the second by a score of 25-21, but rebounded to take the final two by scores of 25-20 and 25-21.

ADM head coach Mary Beth Scott said her team didn’t seem to be clicking Tuesday night, and played better volleyball on Saturday. For whatever reason, the tigers weren’t moving their feet well enough, among other things.

“I would not say that we played consistently,” Scott said. “We did not play our best volleyball.”

That the 12th-ranked tigers were nonetheless able to pull out a win spoke volumes to Scott.

“I think that’s great. I praised that for them for that,” Scott said. “I told them, ‘It’s awesome that you’re tenacious.’ That’s one of my favorite words, and they were tonight. They did not give up, they did not stop believing that they could win, and so they were very tenacious, and I was very proud of them for that. I just would like a little more consistency from them.

ADM improved to 18-8 overall and 3-1 in Raccoon River Conference play. Next up is another home conference game on Thursday, when Carlisle comes to town for a 7 p.m. tip.
