Although only about one hour of driving time separates Jefferson and Humboldt, it’s been over 20 years since the two football programs have met. That will change tomorrow night at Linduska Field in Jefferson when Greene County hosts the Wildcats in the annual Homecoming game for the Rams. When District football began in 1992, Jefferson-Scranton/Paton-Churdan and Humboldt were assigned to the same Class 3A district for two years, and each team won on its home field. Since then, the Rams are now Greene County, and even though the Wildcats are still named Humboldt, that district has grown geographically as well.

Humboldt is 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in Class 3A District 2, with their only loss to highly rated Carroll High. Some polls have Humboldt rated as high as number eight.

Greene County is 2-3 so far, but has a 2-0 record in district play following last Friday’s 17-14 victory in Webster City. With just six district games determining the four playoff qualifiers among the seven football programs in the district, Friday’s game is important from a qualifying standpoint, as well as what place the teams could finish in the standings.

Coverage of the Rams and Wildcats Friday night starts at 6:45 p.m. on KG98 with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
