The Greene County cross-country teams travel northwest to Lake City today for the South Central Calhoun Invitational on the Lake City Golf Course. There are middle school and high school races for girls and boys with action starting with middle schoolers at 4:30 p.m. JV and Varsity races will follow.

Ram head coach Kelly Simpson talked to Raccoon Valley Radio about having 12 days from the last meet to this one due to Perry’s Oct. 2 meet being postponed by weather until today. The Rams were already contracted to go to Lake City, so they won’t be in the Perry make-up meet. “We like going to Perry. We like the scenery and how the meet is run off, but this probably couldn’t have worked any better for us, because it’s where we transition from Thursday night meets to early in the week. Running today and then next Monday (Oct. 13) for the Heart of Iowa Conference meet, so it gives us a little more training time, and a little more recovery time as we have some “owies” things like that we’re trying to get worked out.”

The HOIAC meet Oct. 13 on the Iowa State University Course in Ames and the Oct. 16 Saydel meet in Des Moines will be the only remaining meets on the regular season schedule after today. Assignments for the Oct. 23 Coed Regional Meets are expected to be released soon by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association.
