Greene County’s football team appears to have hit its stride on offense heading into the regular season finale on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The Rams are coming off a 52-23 victory last Friday at Boone in which the team scored 25 points more than in any other game this season, and the Rams racked up 471 yards of offense, by far a season best. Greene County hopes to keep the offense firing on Friday when Class 3A District 2 leader Carroll visits the Rams. The Tigers are 7-1 overall and 5-0 in district play while the Rams are 4-4 overall and tied with Humboldt for second place in the district at 4-1. All three teams have clinched berths in the first round of the Oct. 29 playoffs.

Carroll averages almost 38 points a game while allowing just 12 per contest, and the Tigers have pitched three shut outs this season, including 42-0 over winless Algona in Carroll last Friday night. Greene County’s big offensive outburst last week upped the Rams’ offensive average to 21 points while the defense is giving up an average of about 18 points. Opponents have scored 31 points against the Rams’ offense and special teams, which puts the number of points other teams’ offenses have scored against the Rams’ defense at 14 per contest.

Coverage of the Rams and Tigers for the 3A District 2 title begins Friday night at 6:45 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on KG98.
