ADM’s football players have certainly been focused on winning every game this season, but with the final regular season game nearly upon us, players often show an extra sense of urgency this time of year.

That especially applies to the Tigers’ seniors, who want to extend their high school football careers as long as possible. ADM will have to beat Harlan this Friday night in Adel to secure the fourth and final playoff spot in Class 3A – District 8, and thus guarantee themselves at least one more game.

Senior linebacker and offensive linemen Zach Ostendorf said everyone on the team is well aware of the scenario and is embracing the situation, while trying to treat it like any other game. He said he’s not feeling any pressure to avoid becoming the first senior class since 2007 to miss the playoffs — and to be fair, the ’07 team finished in a three-way tie for the district championship but lost out on a playoff spot due to tiebreakers; at that time only two teams from each district made the playoffs.

With so much on the line this Friday, Ostendorf also said he hasn’t had the opportunity to consider the looming completion of his high school football career.

“Really haven’t sat down and thought about it yet,” Ostendorf said. “But me and my dad were talking about how this could possibly be my last game at Tiger Stadium so I’m just going to take it all in when I get out there, go with it, just focus on the game and then after whatever happens, then that’s when I’m probably realize that it is going to be one of my last games.”

Our coverage of Tigers football begins at 6:45 p.m. Friday, with kickoff at 7:30 on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
