Incredibly good weather greeted runners on Thursday at the Par Three Golf Course at Lake Panorama west of Panora on Thursday for Class 1A and 2A Regional Cross-Country races. The top three teams and top 10 individuals in each regional race move on to State competition north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Teams qualifying for State are:

Class 2A girls- 1- North Polk (Alleman) 2- Red Oak 3- West Central Valley

Class 2A boys- 1- Red Oak 2- Shenandoah 3-Southeast Valley (Gowrie)

Class 1A girls- 1- Griswold 2- Panorama 3- Underwood

Class 1A boys- 1-Nodaway Valley (Greenfield) 2- Tri-Center (Neola) 3- St. Albert, Council Bluffs

Individuals from the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area that are State qualifiers from the Panorama Regional are:

2A girls-  Shelby Hunemiller, West Central Valley (2nd), Abbey Harris, West Central Valley (5th), Gillian Stanley, West Central Valley (6th)

2A boys- Rylan Heffernan, West Central Valley (10th)

1A girls- Devyn Kemble, Panorama (4th), Hannah Appleseth, Panorama (9th)

1A boys- Trey Thompson, Ogden (1st), Andew Stumbo, Ogden (2nd), Shane Breheny, Nodaway Valley (3rd), Sam Bassett, Panorama (4th), Brycen Wallace, Nodaway Valley (7th), Cale Billheimer, Adair-Casey/CAM (Anita) (9th)

The Greene County girls, ranked ninth in 2A, had the misfortune of having top runner Olivia Hansen become ill and collapse on the course. She was not able to finish the race and received medical attention for some time following the mishap. The Rams finished fourth in the team competition and had no top 10 individuals, so there will be no trip to Ft. Dodge this season for the Greene County girls, who finished ninth at State in 2013. Fifth ranked North Polk (Alleman) won the 2A girls’ race with 58 points, followed by Red Oak 76, and West Central Valley 82. The Rams had 93 points.
