The high school football regular season for the Greene County Rams ended on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson with a 14-0 loss to eighth ranked Carroll. The Tigers are 8-1 and they finished the District 2 schedule at 6-0, while the Rams fell to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in district play. Both teams have qualified for the start of the Class 3A playoffs on Wed., Oct. 29.

Junior Matt Pauk ran for touchdowns of eight and three yards and Peyton Raymond added two extra points for all the scoring. Both defenses held the other team to well below their offensive averages. The Tigers entered the game averaging 38 points and 391 yards while the Rams went into the game averaging 21 points and 251 total yards. Carroll had 295 yards of offense (233 rushing, 62 passing), and Greene County had 153 of offense (52 rushing and 101 passing).

The Tigers broke a scoreless tie with a 62 yard, 11 play drive in the second quarter. They scored again in the middle of the third quarter on a drive covering 51 yards and six plays. Although Pauk scored both TDs, quarterback Addison Ross led the Tigers with 129 rushing yards on 11 carries.

Greene County had two chances to put points on the board, but could not. The first drive by the Rams carried deep into Carroll territory, but Kyle Christensen intercepted Daric Whipple at the back of the end zone. In the third quarter, Jake Carey intercepted Ross and the Rams took over at Carroll’s 17, but Greene County’s offense went backward following Carey’s team-leading fourth pick of the season. Greene County turned the ball over four times to two turnovers for Carroll.
