The Perry Jayette volleyball team defeated Ballard in four games last night 25-18, 25-20. 23-25 and 25-10 in First Round 4A Region 2 action.  The Jayettes dominated from the get go, never trailing in the first two games.  Ballard stormed back from an eight point deficit to take game 3, but Perry countered with a 10-0 run to start the fourth game and clinching their third win against the Bombers this season.  Maggie Lowe served the first 10 points in the decisive 4th game.  Once again solid balance was the story for the Jayettes with three girls registering double digit kills.  Senior Claire Marburger led the way with 13 kills, while Ellie Nielsen and Amy Marckres added 11 kills apiece. Maggie Lowe finished with a game high 34 assists and 7 kills while Victoria Hegstrom added 3 ace serves.

“This was a total team victory tonight,” added a satisfied Perry Coach Kristel Kautzky.  “We addressed our serve reception all weekend and we performed so much better in that area tonight.  We were able to get Maggie the ball and she set up our hitters all night.  It was fun to be a part of.”

It has been quite the turnaround for Perry volleyball this season after winning only 6 games last year, the Jayettes are now only 2 wins away from the State Tournament after picking up their 18th win of the season.  “We still have more work to do and DCG will be a big challenge.  I know our girls are looking forward to the challenge and we just have to remain focused and play our game.”

DCG picked up a first round bye and will host Perry this Thursday night at 7:00 in Grimes.  Shawn Kenney will have the play by play on 1310 KDLS and online at raccoonvalleyradio.com
