After a week-long wait, ADM volleyball has its first playoff game tonight in Adel. The Tigers, who had a first-round bye, host the Norwalk Warriors at 7 p.m. in ADM High’s North Gym.

The Warriors have won three in a row heading into Thursday’s action, most recently sweeping Winterset in the opening round of Classs 4A – Region 3 play on Monday. Norwalk has won nine consecutive sets overall and is 6-2 overall in its last eight matches.

ADM head coach Mary Beth Scott said she’s excited to play a team the Tigers haven’t seen this season. She said ADM will have to deal with a pair of big middles on Norwalk, and that the Warriors will push the ball to the corners frequently. Scott described Norwalk as “scrappy,” and added that she thinks any team can beat any other team at this time of the season, so her players will have to be aggressive in all facets of the game.

ADM last played in the regular season finale last Thursday, a four-set loss at Carroll. Since then, Scott has lead several team-bonding activities to get her players away from the court and to relax their minds, including bowling and a dinner at the coach’s house. The Tigers then returned to practice on Monday and scrimmaged four teams at Valley High School on Tuesday to stay sharp. Otherwise, ADM has just been focused on fine-tuning the fundamentals.

“We’re going to kind of just run through what we do, and at this point of the season, the girls have been playing together for two months now –This is what we’ve been waiting for,” Scott said. “And so we’re just trying to keep people from getting hurt, making sure we’re ready to play five games if we need it, and just doing the fundamentals of volleyball.”

We’ll have all the action from the North Gym on K107 and Raccoonvalleyradio.com.
