The Greene County High School football team lost 31-7 on Wednesday night on KG98 to Creston/Orient-Macksburg in Creston in a Class 3A first round playoff game. The season ends for Coach Dean Lansman’s team at four wins and six losses while the Panthers advance to Monday’s second round with a record of 8-2.

The Rams started slowly on both sides of the ball. The offense didn’t get a first down until its fifth possession and the defense gave up two touchdowns and a field goal the first three times the Panthers had the ball. The Rams trailed 17-0 with 1:39 left in the first quarter after Conner Pals connected on a field goal of 42 yards. The scored stayed the same until Greene County scored with 4:36 to play in the third quarter. Dylan Hamilton had a five yard scoring run and Nick Schroeder added the extra point to make it 17-7. The Panthers came right back and scored with 3:33 to go in quarter number three, and they added another TD with 11:15 to play in the game.

Chase Schiltz had scoring runs of five, four, and seven yards, and quarterback Alex Nielsen scored on a one-yard sneak for the Panthers’s TDs. Schiltz finished with 135 rushing yards on 25 carries and Nielsen threw for 248 yards, going 16 of 25 with one interception by Jordan Challen. Christian Groumoutis had eight catches for 124 yards for C/O-M, and the Panthers totaled 419 yards of offense.

The Rams had 261 yards of offense with Hamilton gaining 129 yards on the ground and Challen running for 105. Greene County had 216 rushing yards and 45 through the air.
