It was sunny, but cold and windy on Saturday at Kennedy Park north of Ft. Dodge for the 2014 Iowa High School State Cross-Country Championships. Several Raccoon Valley Radio listening area athletes competed in the meet.

Nodaway Valley finished fourth among 15 squads in the team race for Class 1A boys with sophomore Shane Breheny leading the way with a seventh place finish. Breheny was third among runners competing with a full team. The other four NV runners that counted in the team score were freshman Bryce Wallace (18), junior Nathan Venteicher (25), sophomore Brayten Funke (28), and junior Heath Downing (29).

Ogden had a pair of high finishers in the individual race in 1A with senior Trey Thompson finishing ninth and sophomore Andrew Stumbo thirteenth. Adair-Casey/CAM sophomore Cale Billheimer was 35th and Panorama senior Sam Bassett 36th.

The Panorama girls were eighth among 15 1A girls’ teams. Senior Hannah Appleseth led the way with a sixteenth place finish among runners with a full team and she was 27th overall Freshman Devyn Kemble was 18th among runners with a full team and 30th overall. Other Panthers and their team score finish were freshman Brianna Hoffman (24), junior Meredith Olson (71), and junior Mykenzie Olson (73).

The West Central Valley girls were fourteenth among 15 Class 2A teams. Senior Shelby Hunemiller led the Wildcats with a 35th place finish among runners with a full team and she was 45th overall. Sophomore Abbey Harris was 37th for team scoring purposes and 47th overall. The other three Wildcats that had their finish count in the team score were sophomore Gillian Stanely (51), junior Asia Clark (90), and senior Alicia Urquhart (91).
