A pair of Perry seniors will officially sign National Letters of Intent tomorrow at the Brady Library.  Claire Marburger will sign her letter to play basketball at Valparaiso at 10 am and then Maggie Lowe will make it official at 1 pm to play for Wayne State.  The following stories below are a quick recap of their paths to today’s signings.

Perry senior point guard Maggie Lowe has verbally committed to the Wayne State Wildcat Basketball program starting in the 2015-2016 school year.

Wayne State is a Division II powerhouse that has captured the 16 team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title three out of the past four years. The Wildcats finished 28-5 and 19-3 conference champions this past year. Lowe explains her reasons behind choosing the school.

“How close it was to home, the head coach said I would get a lot of playing time as a Freshman and I love the girls and I love the campus.”

Lowe should fit in well with a Wayne State program that likes to get up and down the court. Maggie averaged 11 points per game and finished with 152 assists for a 19-5 Perry Jayette program. She also connected for 44 three pointers and hit 34% beyond the arc.

Lowe will have the opportunity to learn from a Big Ten point guard in Saddie Murren. The former Nebraska Cornhusker will have two years of eligibility starting this season after transferring from Lincoln.

“Saddie is a really good point guard I’ll learn a lot from her and I’m excited to play with her too” says Lowe.

A second Perry senior has verbally committed to play basketball at a college basketball program.  All State forward Claire Marburger verbally committed to the Valparaiso Crusaders of the Horizon League.  The Crusaders finished 6-25 a year ago and 3-13 in the Horizon League.  This past season’s schedule included Notre Dame and Illinois.

“I got a feeling when I was on campus that I was definitely going to fit in there.  It was feeling that I never felt in visiting any of the other campuses.  It was something that I knew I had to commit to and be a part of.   I fit in very well with the school and it has a good business school which is what I want to get into.  I’m very excited about what the future holds at Valparaiso.”

Marburger has drawn a lot of interest from colleges across the country after a productive summer traveling the country along with a solid junior year that saw her among the state’s leaders in points and rebounds per game.

“I enjoyed the ride at first but it certainly got a little stressful toward the end with the number of offers just exploding at the end of July.  I went through and made a pro-con list for every school and I narrowed it down to Dartmouth and Valparaiso which I had visited these past two weeks.  I felt Valparaiso was going to be the best for me and my abilities on the court.”

Marburger joins teammate Maggie Lowe who verbally accepted an offer from Wayne State a month ago.  Both Lowe and Marburger indicated that they still have unfinished business in Perry and will do all they can to try and get the Jayettes into the state tournament for the first time since 2002.
