There’s a lot of hype surrounding ADM wrestling heading into the 2014-15 season, and rightfully so. The Tigers return three individual state placers from last y ear’s team and head coach Justin Schmauss said he has a number of other wrestlers ready to challenge for spots on this year’s awards podium.

Scmauss was careful to not set unrealistically high goals for his team this season, but did recently tell Raccoon Valley Radio he believes ADM is more than capable of being one of eight teams to make it to the state duals tournament, and wants his players to aim high. He added that among preseason publications of top wrestlers in the state, he found only one team that had five ranked wrestlers. ADM has four.

Schmauss also downsplayed the significance of the rankings, but said it’s nice recognition and that the Tigers could realistically add to that total of four ranked wrestlers as the season progresses. As for those wrestlers who aren’t yet ranked and did not place at state last year, what will it take for them to accomplish both this season?

“Just confidence. They just need to have that confidence that they’re going to be in that gym that day at that weight,” Schmauss said. “They’re going to have to have the mentality that they’re there to win it and they’re there to take it, and just keep that confidence. And if they get beat they learn from it, move on.”

Schmauss and ADM will have their first practice on Monday.
