The high school volleyball and football seasons have been over for a while for the Greene County teams, but not so for the teams that knocked the Rams out of the postseason. In volleyball, Nevada is in the State Tournament semifinals today, and in football, Creston/Orient-Macksburg plays in the semifinals today of the Class 3A playoffs.

Nevada defeated Greene County twice this season, in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play, and in the opening round of Class 3A regional tournament play. The Cubs advanced to today’s semis vs. Solon in Cedar Rapids by knocking off West Liberty on Wednesday in straight sets. The Nevada/Solon winner plays tomorrow for the 3A State title.

Creston/Orient-Macksburg downed the Rams in football twice this season, 23-7 in non-district regular season play, and 31-7 in the opening round of the playoffs. The Panthers also defeated Norwalk and Dallas Center-Grimes in the playoffs to reach today’s semifinal vs. 2013 State Champion Bishop Heelan of Sioux City in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The C/O-M vs. Heelan winner plays next week for the 3A State title.
