Media Day is today for the Greene County High School girls’ basketball program. There are 30 girls in grades 9-12 out for basketball and the girls and their coaches will be on hand to visit with members of the media. Chad Morton is the head coach and Dean Lyons and Keith Vander Wilt are assistant coaches. Morton has been at the helm of Jefferson-based programs for a decade. Lyons is in his first season in this coaching capacity, but he is a former East Greene boys’ head basketball coach and has coached both boys and girls in the past. Vander Wilt is a former girls’ head coach, both here and elsewhere, and has been in the girls’ basketball program in Jefferson on one level or another for 30 years.

Coach Morton told Raccoon Valley Radio the first three days of practice have gone well. “We have six seniors who have either two or three seasons of varsity experience, and I’m really leaning on those seniors to lead us this year.”

The Rams were 9-13 a season ago and 8-10 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play.
