With team sports comes a natural camaraderie that develops between teammates. That camaraderie can especially be strengthened among teammates who play with each other across multiple seasons.

Take junior ADM wrestlers Nathan Heath and Hunter Gibson. The two played next each other all fall at the defensive tackle positions for ADM football, while also serving as the team’s left and right tackles on the offensive line. The two certainly enjoy competition, especially with one another.

“Oh yea. You can tell they’ve butted heads in other sports, and they definitely will get in and get after each other and make each other in the wrestling room,” said Tigers head coach Justin Schmauss. “They get mad when they’re wrestling [each other], but then you turn over there and a couple seconds later they’re both smiling and laughing.

“So it’s definitely a healthy, competitive relationship they have with each other, and they know they’re just making each other better.”

Heath is more of a known commodity, having placed eight in the last year’s state tournament in the 285-pound weight class. But the competition between the two seems to have helped elevate Gibson’s game as well. The 195-pound Gibson has 13 wins, just one behind Heath.
