A Dallas Center woman and her family are going to be able to enjoy an extra special holiday season this year thanks to an annual Raccoon Valley Radio contest.

Linda McClure is the lucky winner of $1,000 Christmas Cash Giveaway.  To enter she, like thousands of others throughout the Dallas, Greene and Guthrie County area, simply filled out an entry form and dropped it in one of the designated boxes.

“We got a flier in the mail saying that Adel TV and Appliance was having a before Black Friday sale, and we needed a new bed so we went over there and checked them out and we purchased one.  So then when I was checking out there was a box and it said ‘Sign up for $1,000’, and I thought ‘Okay, I’ll throw my name in there’, normally I’m never very lucky.  And so I put my name in there and what do you know, they pulled it out and I’m a winner!” says McClure.

Thousands of people entered the annual giveaway at our 51 different drop off locations throughout the area.  184 people were drawn to qualify for the big prize and when McClure received word her name was drawn, she simply didn’t know what to say.

“I was shocked.  I was speechless and I didn’t know what to say.  I was like ‘Are you kidding me?’ because I honestly had forgotten about it because it was back in November.”

McClure says she and her husband will likely use the prize money to going on a trip, though she may share the wealth as well.

“That will really help with my Christmas shopping, and my kids might get a little extra something in their stocking.  I just wish to thank everybody.  It was great.  Like I said it was a total surprise and I’ll definitely put it to use.  Thank you very, very much.”

The contest kicked off November 9th and the winner was drawn Saturday, December 20th.  Raccoon Valley Radio General Manager John McGee says it’s always neat to be able to brighten someone’s holiday and he loved the chance to see the genuine surprise in McClure’s eyes as she held the check for the first time.  He also says thank you to all of the local sponsors that help make this contest possible.
