The two Greene County High School varsity basketball teams have completed the December portion of their schedules and both squads have four wins. The boys are 4-3 and the girls are 4-4 overall. In Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play, the Rams are 4-2 on the boys’ side and 4-3 in girls’ action.

Coach Chad Morton’s Rams started the season with three straight road games before playing four of the last five games at home. A four-game winning streak was highlighted by a Dec. 12 victory over Class 3A seventh ranked Nevada, but three losses followed that upset victory. North Polk (Alleman) was a 58-49 winner in Jefferson over the Rams last Friday night after the Rams led early in the fourth quarter 46-43.

The Greene County boys’ started the season with three wins before losing three straight. Last Friday’s 77-75 victory at home over North Polk put Coach Jeramie Hinote’s team over the .500 mark going into the break. Greene County is scoring points at a more rapid pace than in recent seasons as the Rams average 69.8 points a contest. On the other hand, Greene County is allowing 69.6 points a game. This Greene County team is on pace to easily pass last season’s win total of six games.

The Greene County teams are off until a January 6 girl/boy doubleheader vs. the Saydel teams in Des Moines.
