Greene County Activities Director Dean Lansman thinks Winter sports have started well for the Rams. He was asked by Raccoon Valley Radio to talk about girls and boys basketball, and wrestling. “The whole school year has gone well, and Winter sports are off to a good start. We aren’t quite at the halfway point, but we will be shortly after we come back in January. The weather has been great, so we haven’t had cancellations and postponements to deal with. Our teams have been competitive, so it’s been a good start.

The Rams are 4-8 in dual meet wrestlers and they’ve had trouble filling the lineup with as many as five weight classes being forfeited in December. Head Coach Mark Sawhill is hoping to be able to reduce that number to just two forfeits once the season resumes. Greene County has been more competitive in the invitational tournaments they’ve been in by finishing seventh among 15 teams at Dallas Center-Grimes, and third among nine on Dec. 20 in Carroll at the Tiger-Knight Invite.

Coach Chad Morton’s girls’ basketball team is 4-4 overall and 4-3 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action. Coach Jeramie Hinote’s boys’ basketball team is 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the HOIAC.
