Greene County wrestlers are off until next week, enjoying the holidays and the time away from training. The Rams have struggled to win dual meets, going 0-3 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference, and 4-8 overall. They’ve done better at invitational tournaments, where individuals can rack up team points above what can be accomplished in the dual meet setting. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team has three individuals ranked in the Class 2A top 10 in their respective weight classes. Jordan Challen is ranked fifth at 138, Tommy Bradshaw is sixth at 145, and Abe Yoder is tenth at 132 lbs.

Challen told Raccoon Valley Radio he had a number of goals at the beginning of the season and while most of Challen’s goals are still attainable, one has slipped away. “I wanted to be undefeated this year, and I have one loss, so I haven’t met all of my goals.” The Ram senior dropped a 2-0 decision to ADM senior and fourth ranked Trevor Harsh in the finals of the Dec. 6 Dallas Center-Grimes Invitational. Challen has won every other match, including his last 10 in a row, and he sits at 14-1 at the break. For his career, the two-time state tournament qualifier has 112 victories, reaching the 100 victory plateau on opening night earlier this month.
