In a season marked by up-and-down offensive performances for the ADM girls basketball team, sophomore Sydney Bertman has been the steadying force the Tigers so desperately need.

A key contributor off the bench as a freshman last season, Bertman was being counted on to produce even more as a starter this year, and has delivered.

Bertman leads ADM in a number of categories, including scoring (11.5 points per game), shooting (44.8 percent), rebounding (7.2 per game), assists (14) and steals (15). The varsity volleyball player has become a stat-sheet stuffer on the basketball court because of superior athleticism.

Bertman brings the best of both worlds as a hybrid guard-forward: she can and often does lead ADM down the court in fast break situations and handles the ball well, but also plays confidently in the post on both ends of the floor.

“She controls the paint pretty well, can score against bigger girls because of her athleticism,” ADM head coach Corey Schneider said. “So we’re going to need her to keep playing well and maybe even step it up a little bit more come January.”

Bertman has only a couple of weaknesses in her game, as she is shooting just 45 percent on free throws and has attempted just one 3-pointer this season.
