Noted motivational speaker Mike Parker of Iowa City will be coming to talk to students at West Central Valley High School later this week. Parker’s website says he specializes in everything from speaking to students to corporate businessmen. Meghan King is the high school’s At-Risk Coordinator and says Parker’s presentation will be about the importance of students chasing their dreams. “The topic is gonna be on making the most of their high school years. Achieving their dreams and reaching their goals.”

Parker’s resume includes presenting to numerous school districts around Iowa, as well as large, regional corporations, including MidAmerican Energy and Mercy Hospital of Iowa City.

The Guthrie Center City Council will convene in regular session tonight for a meeting with a brief agenda. Scheduled items of discussion include destruction of certain records, setting a public hearing for the proposed 2015/16 budget, and “other” topics of discussion. The meeting begins at 6 pm this evening inside of the Guthrie Center Clerk’s office.
