Jerry BarkerA Jefferson man was arrested after an investigation led to a search warrant being executed Tuesday.

Police Chief Dave Morlan tells Raccoon Valley Radio, his department received a call about some unusual activity taking place at a residence in the 200 block of South Oak Street, the first week of February.

After gathering enough evidence, a search warrant was executed at the residence at 10:53am on Tuesday.  Morlan notes that they seized suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, guns, prescription drugs and other items from the home.  During the search, officers found a handgun that is believed to be associated with the suspect.  As a result, 51 year-old Jerry Dean Barker was arrested and charged with a Class D Felony for allegedly being a felon in possession of a firearm.  Online court records show that he was previously convicted of a felony for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver from Polk County in 1996.  He was booked into the Greene County Jail on Tuesday and later released on his own recognizance.

Morlan points out that the investigation is ongoing, with more charges pending and the possibility of additional arrests.
