A Jefferson man was arrested following a pursuit in an alleged stolen vehicle Thursday.

Police Chief Dave Morlan tells Raccoon Valley Radio, a 2013 black Chevrolet truck was reported stolen in the 200 block of North Olive Street at 10:57pm last night.  At 12:12am, a Greene County Deputy spotted the vehicle behind Durbin Automotive near North Vine Street.  A pursuit ensued.  The deputy followed the suspect, and as he turned onto Cedar Street a police vehicle was heading toward him.  Morlan says the suspect swerved into the officer’s lane and tried to hit the patrol vehicle head on.  The officer took evasive action to avoid being hit by jumping a curb and eventually stopping on an easement.

The chase ended five minutes later when the suspect lost control near the intersection of Cedar and McKinley streets after jumping a curb, hitting a fire hydrant and striking a tree head on.  No one was hurt in the incident and the Chevrolet pickup is believed to be a total loss.

32 year-old Andrew Lee Jensen of Jefferson was arrested and the Jefferson Police Department has filed a Class C Felony charge for first degree theft.  Additional charges from the Greene County Sheriff’s office include felonies for eluding, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, first degree theft, driving with a suspended license and possession of methamphetamine, third offense.  Sheriff Steve Haupert adds that he will also face additional traffic violations.

Morlan notes that Jensen is believed to also be involved in another stolen vehicle incident from this past Tuesday.  Charges from that incident are pending completion of the ongoing investigation.

Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
