IMG_2907The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.

At the meeting, the Board approved payroll change notices for the public health department and roads department.  Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the following employees for their service milestones:

Mario Galindo – Secondary Roads – 5 years
Steven Gomke – Secondary Roads – 5 years
Penny Freestone – Auditor’s Office – 5 years
Connie Kinnard – Operations Administrator – 15 years
Cindy Kisting – Recorder’s Office – 15 years
Walter Juarez – Treasurer’s Office – 15 years
Ryan Bowers – Sheriff’s Office – 15 years
Lynn Royer – Public Health – 15 years

The Supervisors then approved a scanner purchase and software maintenance agreement with Data Business Equipment Inc. for the Treasurer’s office.  33 disabled veteran’s homestead tax credit applications were also approved as presented, along with one that was disallowed.

Public hearings were then set in regards to the jail software upgrade plan, jail service agreement and courthouse service agreement.  All three will take place during the regular meeting on July 21st.

Two Sheriff’s office vehicle purchase requests were then approved.  The 2015 Dodge Chargers will be purchased from the Stew Hansen dealership in Clive.  One comes at a cost of $15,226 after a $10,500 trade-in credit for a 2013 Charger.  The second has a final price tag of $18,766 after a $7,000 trade in credit for a 2012 Charger.

A public hearing in regards to the County Engineer’s employment contract was then approved.  Al Miller has been selected for the position.  He thanked the Board for the opportunity to serve the County and said he understands there are big shoes to fill with the retirement of current Engineer Jim George.  Supervisor Mark Hanson welcomed Miller to Dallas County and said everyone involved in the hiring process was impressed with him.  He comes to the area from Fayette County, having previously worked for Johnson County and the City of Des Moines.  He and his wife are looking forward to relocating to Dallas County.  He and his wife have two children.  When asked what he sees as needs for the County in terms of Engineering, Miller said the growth is incredible and working with municipalities as they grow is one of the biggest challenges he sees.  The Supervisors approved the employment contract as presented.  Miller will take over the position on the 14th of September.

Case management vehicle purchase requests were then discussed.  The County received four bids, three from Dallas County.  The Board approved the purchase of a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu and 2015 Chevrolet Equinox from Shottenkirk Chevrolet in Waukee at a final cost of $22,533, after the trade in of a 2009 Avenger and 2008 Charger.

The human services campus renovation project was then discussed.  Architect Jerry Purdy shared an update on the work currently taking place.  He says painters are on site this week and work is progressing as scheduled,1 with the project expected to be completed in October.  Purdy then shared parking options with the Board.  Right now, he says there are 53 existing stalls on the campus.  He shared three different options, which would add 47, 35 or 49 stalls.  He says the project will likely come at a cost of between $75,000 and $85,000.
