On Tuesday night, the Greene County Rams football team surprised one of their student managers with a surprising gift.

The team presented Ian Jensen with a gold PlayStation 4 at their football banquet at the middle school gym.  Senior Matt Gordon says they got the idea when Jensen told them about the gaming system that he wanted to win from a special promotion through national fast food chain.  He adds that Jensen is epileptic and autistic and Jensen’s doctors won’t allow him to play football.  Fellow senior Ben Lint says they sent out a school-wide email asking students to help donate money.  He points out that they raised $400 in a matter of three days.  Gordon talks about the moment when Jensen opened the gift.

“Oh my God, it was priceless.  It’s still on my mind today.  His face was something that you had to be there to see.  It was crazy.  He just couldn’t stop saying thank you.  The last thing he said was that he wasn’t going to forget this.”

Head coach and activities director Dean Lansman says he was impressed that the team did something like this and it shows the kind of character that the students have.

“There’s more about athletics and sports than just the X’s and O’s.  It shows the interaction between kids and how they can play such an important role in other kids’ lives.  It was such a neat moment.”

This was the first year the Jensen has helped with the football team.
