Greene County High School head wrestling coach Mark Sawhill and assistant Spencer Bauer and the 10 wrestlers out for the sport are preparing for the Dec. 1 season opening double-dual in Van Meter with the combined VM/Earlham program, as well as the Ogden Bulldogs. The numbers out are as low as anyone associated with the high school wrestling program in Jefferson can remember, but Coach Sawhill told Raccoon Valley Radio they’re trying to put a positive spin on it because the two coaches can spend more time with each of the 10 wrestlers. “We’ve talked about it and pointed out it’s the little things that put you over the top and if you can concentrate on those little things, think about those little things, practice them enough that it becomes muscle memory, that makes a big difference. And that’s what we’re striving to do, trying to clean up some things, and trying to get them to that point. We’d love to have more out so they have other people to pound on, because some of these guys are going to get tired of wrestling each other after a bit.”

Today is Thanksgiving, but those wrestlers watching their weight for Tuesday’s weigh-in may have to stick with the turkey and skip the mashed potatoes and gravy.
