jake chapmanThe Iowa legislature has agreed on a 2.25 percent increase in state spending for schools.

This means there will be a $138 million more appropriated for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade programs for the 2016-2017 school year.

District 10 State Senator Jake Chapman says the only good news about the funding bill is the fact that schools now know how much money they will be getting ahead of their April 15th deadline.

“It’s certainly a milestone when (state supplemental aid) is set because that is an indicator that we’re getting closer to being finished with the work for this year but the concern is, is the money going to be there in the future?”

Senator Chapman will share more on his thoughts on the budget and other legislative issues on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
