20160712_110415_255A longtime employee of the Guthrie County Sheriff’s office was honored for nearly three decades of service Tuesday.

Betty Hansen says she performed many services for the Sheriff’s office from 1985-2014. “I delivered meals for inmates three times a day seven days a week, I did all their laundry, and after my husband passed away in 2001, I did all of the matron work. I rode in transport with officers doing all of the matron work, including being called in here at 2, 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning when they had a drunk woman here.”

Hansen tells Raccoon Valley Radio that one of the neatest parts of her job was getting a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes workings of law enforcement. “You learn a lot by listening to their radios and stuff. When they’re answering a call, sending officers out and keeping track of them. You learn a lot of that by just being here.”

Sheriff Marty Arganbright says it’s hard to find an employee as reliable as Betty was. “It’s hard to find someone that you can depend on, to deliver meals three times a day, everyday, including weekends and holidays.”

Betty will tell us more about her experiences at the Sheriff’s office today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
