dallas-county3The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.

At the meeting, Board Chairman Mark Hanson took a moment to remember Wilma McManus who recently passed away at the age of 102.  He said she gave her entire life to the education of students in Dallas County and was a wonderful person “she made an impact on the lives of lots and lots of people here.”  Hanson said it’s important to remember the history of where we’ve been and those who help shape it.  Supervisors Kim Chapman reiterated that she was a very kind and generous woman.

Payroll change notices for the sheriff’s and auditor’s offices were approved as presented.

The north campus and 902 Court Street projects are reportedly moving forward as scheduled with no real change in plans at this time.  Bid letting for the 902 Court Street building is set for this Thursday with approval of a contract on the agenda for next week’s Supervisors meeting.

Discussion then continued on pioneer cemeteries. Hanson stated the first step is doing inventory on the pioneer cemeteries in the county and then determine what role the Supervisors will take when it comes to overseeing them.  Adams Township Clerk Julie Turner was in attendance and stated they’re committed to maintaining and keeping the cemeteries in a positive state. The Board will continue to research the topic and potentially hold a workshop with township trustees to further discuss the issue.
