The West Central Valley cross country team will head to Southeast Valley, of Gowrie, for their season opener tomorrow night. Head coach Mike Vokes says they hope to improve upon their performance from last year. “I think last year we finished in the middle of the pack for both of our squads. It’s a very fast, flat course, one probably good for this time of year. We don’t want the challenging hills too early, we want the kids to be encouraged. It’s a good early-bird meet where they can see some competition from other parts of the state that they won’t typically see through the rest of the regular season.”

Racing starts at 5 p.m. Thursday.
