The Perry Public Library’s summer reading program is starting up soon, and Library Director Mary Murphy reminds people it’s not just for kids.

There is an adult summer reading program, with several programs throughout that tie into the theme of “Build a Better World.” One such program is being put on by the Iowa Small Business Administration, and it focuses on starting or growing your small business. There will be two sessions for that program, the first on June 6th will be in English, the second on June 13th will be in Spanish. Other programs include book folding on June 26th, refurbishing furniture on July 13th, and a five-part series of bilingual courses on home maintenance starting July 24th.

Of course, it is called a summer “reading” program, so books will also be an important aspect. Murphy says those in the program can read books, give their opinions on them, and be entered to win prizes. “We will have a finale, and it will be the last week in July. And at the finale, we will be announcing the winners. How you get signed up to be a winner is book reviews. Every book review that you put into the bag, our finale grand prizes are chosen from those book reviews.”

Prizes include an overnight stay at Hotel Pattee, $50 in Perry Bucks, and an Amazon Kindle Fire. People interested in joining the adult summer reading program can still do so at the library or on their website.

The Perry summer reading program for all ages will kick off this Saturday at KidsFest.
